What's New- Upcoming Free Presentation at St. Joseph's Hospital on a New, Evidence-based Technique for Treating Attention Problems that is Coming to Tucson: Children and adults with attention problems are vastly underserved; there are very few evidence based treatments for attention problems, beyond medication and organizational tactics. However, there is a new software based program (called CogMed) that scientfic evidence suggests is uniquely effective in helping people gain long-term benefit from, by helping them focus better. Dr. Brunner will be discussing this technique (new to Tucson) at an evening lecture on November 12, 2009. - Dr. Brunner is in the process of writing a book about morality, leadership, and ethics that will be due out in 2010.
- Dr. Brunner recently presented a talk on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (on 02/17/09) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He was asked by the Psychiatry Training Program to present on this topic at University Medical Center.
- Dr. Brunner has published a state-of-the-art psychological measure with his colleague Dr. Charles Spielberger, a world renowned expert who has authored some of the most widely used measures of anxiety and anger in the world. This measure is called the State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory for Children and Adolescents (STAXI-C/A; Brunner & Spielberger), and is being published by Psychological Assessments Resources (PAR) in November 2009. - Dr. Brunner took a leading role as he helped St. Joseph’s Hospital setup a pre-surgery psychological assessment protocol for patients considering bariatric surgery. In doing this, he drew from his expertise in medical psychology which is based on his previous hospital-based work with Shands Hospital at the University of Florida, as well as at Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
